Brokers flagging latency arbitrage and what it actually means

Some brokers ban "latency arbitrage," which refers to exploiting delays between their price feed and faster market prices. Retail scalpers sometimes get accused of it without doing anything of the sort.

Accounts with a high win rate on very short trades, especially around news, can trigger automated flags. The response ranges from a warning to slower execution, wider spreads, or account closure.

Understanding what the broker's terms say is the first step. Some define the prohibited behaviour clearly. Others use vague language that gives them broad discretion.

Keeping trades reasonable in duration, avoiding strategies that depend purely on stale quotes, and trading through brokers with transparent policies lowers the risk.

Documenting the strategy's logic helps if a dispute arises. A clear explanation of why trades are taken is more convincing than silence.

Saving a few screenshots of the strategy rules and a sample of trade logs creates a simple record to point to if questions ever come up.
