The first fifteen minutes of London as its own setup

The opening range of the London session is a favourite reference. The high and low of the first fifteen minutes frame what follows, and breaks of that range sometimes lead to directional moves.

The behaviour depends on the previous Asian range and the news calendar. A wide opening range after a quiet Asia often leads to continuation. A narrow range following a big overnight move can produce choppy action.

Fake breaks are common. A move above the range that quickly returns inside often reverses toward the other side.

Testing variants, such as entry on the first break, on the close beyond the range, or on a retest, shows which has the best expectancy on a given pair. Results vary widely.

Stops placed inside the range or at the opposite extreme define different risk profiles, and the reward-to-risk needs to match.

Marking the range on the chart before London opens, instead of drawing it afterward, keeps the observation honest.
