Testing a broker's claims with small live trades

Marketing pages say ECN, STP, no dealing desk, raw spreads. Verifying any of that from the outside is hard, but a few cheap tests expose a lot.

Open a funded account with the smallest viable deposit and run 50 to 100 micro lot trades across different hours. Compare the fill price to the quote seen at click time, track the rejection rate, and note how spreads behave around rollover and news. Trade a pair or two at wildly different volatility levels, because some brokers behave perfectly during calm moments and badly in fast ones.

Pay attention to what happens with profitable scalps specifically. Some brokers quietly slow execution, widen spreads, or add delays for accounts that win consistently on very short trades, and a micro lot test will not reveal that. Reading withdrawal complaints and checking regulator records fills that gap.

One more check: ask support direct questions about execution model, liquidity providers, and last look policy. Evasive replies tell as much as detailed ones.

Which tests ended up revealing the most about a broker, and was any of them surprising?
