Triple swap Wednesdays are a scalper's problem only sometimes

Holding a position through the 5pm roll adds or subtracts swap, and Wednesday's roll counts for three days because of the settlement calendar. Most scalpers close before the roll and never see it, so the topic feels irrelevant.
The exception is the grey zone, where a scalp that was supposed to last ten minutes is still open at 4:58 pm because price has not hit the target. Then the choice becomes a hold-or-cut decision with a surprise bill attached. On a high-swap pair like a yen cross against a high-yield currency, that Wednesday charge can run well over a pip equivalent.
Some brokers apply the triple on a different day for specific pairs, for instance for instruments settled on different calendars. Checking the symbol info for each pair avoids the surprise.
There is a flip side too. Positive swap on the right side of a carry pair can slightly pad a trade, though that is hardly a reason to hold a scalp past its plan.
Has a forgotten open trade at rollover ever cost a surprising amount in swap?
