Sleep debt and the Asian session scalper

Trading from a different time zone often means working at odd hours. Waking at 3 am for the London open or staying up through the night for Asia takes a toll that accumulates.

Sleep deprivation slows reaction time, narrows attention, and increases impulsivity. Even moderate sleep loss produces measurable declines in judgement, comparable in some studies to mild intoxication.

For scalping, where speed and precision matter, that cost is high. Mistakes like wrong lot sizes, missed stops, and sloppy entries become more frequent.

A consistent schedule helps more than occasional heroic efforts. Going to bed at a fixed time, even on non-trading days, stabilises the body clock. Naps before an early session can also help.

Looking at results by time of day and by hours of sleep, if tracked, often reveals the link. Many traders find that skipping a session on a bad night is cheaper than trading it badly.

How does sleep affect performance, and is it tracked alongside trades?
