Rebates and cashback can distort which broker looks cheapest

Introducing brokers and cashback programmes return a portion of the spread or commission on each trade. For active scalpers, that can add up to a meaningful amount.
The risk is letting the rebate steer the choice. A broker with worse execution but a bigger rebate may cost more overall once slippage and rejections are counted.
Comparing net costs means including everything: spread, commission, slippage, and rebate. A rebate of 0.3 pips does not help if slippage adds 0.5.
Rebates can also create incentives to trade more, which hurts if the extra trades lack edge. Volume feels rewarded even when it reduces profit.
Checking how the rebate is calculated, when it is paid, and whether it depends on trade duration prevents surprises. Some programmes exclude trades closed within a minute or two, which would eliminate the benefit for scalpers.
A tidy spreadsheet with spread, commission, slippage, and rebate in separate columns settles the comparison far better than any advertised headline number.
Does a rebate programme get used, and did it change the net costs in a measurable way?
