Prop firm rules and the scalper's trap

Funded account programs attract scalpers, since they offer large buying power for a small fee. The rules, though, change the game.

A daily loss limit, commonly 4 to 5 percent, and a maximum drawdown, commonly 8 to 10 percent, are usually measured on equity, not balance. That means floating losses count. A scalper holding several positions can breach the limit through open trades before any of them is closed.

Consistency rules add another twist. Some firms require that no single day contributes more than a fixed share of total profit. A single great day can disqualify an otherwise passing result.

Some also restrict trading around news, ban certain strategies or demand minimum holding periods.

Reading the terms line by line is boring and essential. Many failed challenges come from rule violations, not poor trading.

A practical step is to build the firm's exact limits into the daily plan, including a personal stop set well inside the official one.

Has anyone passed a challenge here, and which rule nearly caused trouble?
