Maximum order size and the silent split

Brokers set a maximum volume per order, such as 50 lots. A trade larger than that is rejected, or split into several orders.

Splitting can produce several fills at slightly different prices, and the platform may show multiple positions instead of one. Closing them all at once adds the same effect on the way out.

On some platforms, the maximum depends on the instrument and the time. Around news events, brokers may reduce the limit temporarily.

For scalpers working with large size, this introduces another layer of execution risk. A strategy that sizes up on strong signals may hit a limit it never considered.

The symbol specification lists the maximum volume and the volume step. Checking both before scaling up avoids surprises.

A related limit is the maximum total exposure per instrument or per account, which some brokers enforce regardless of order size. Hitting it produces rejections with generic messages. A short note listing each limit for the main pairs, kept next to the desk, saves time when a rejection appears at a critical moment.

What is the maximum order size on the main pairs traded, and has it ever been reached?
