Myth: the best scalping hours are the busiest hours

Busy does not automatically mean profitable. The London and New York overlap, roughly 8am to 12pm New York time, has the deepest liquidity and tightest spreads, which is why so many scalpers focus on it.

But that same window contains most of the major scheduled news, the largest institutional flows and the fastest reversals. Tight spreads come packaged with sharp, unpredictable moves.

The quieter parts of the day have their own character. Late Asian session on a pair like AUDNZD or EURCHF can produce neat range behaviour that suits mean-reversion scalping, even if spreads cost a bit more.

So the real question is not which session is best in general, but which session matches the strategy. Trend-following breakouts usually want volatility. Range fading usually wants calm.

The test is to tag every trade in the journal with its session, then sort results by session after 100 trades. The pattern is often surprising and sometimes shows that a strategy only works in one two-hour window.

Which session has been the most consistent when reviewing journal data?
