US yields as the early tell for USDJPY

USDJPY follows US Treasury yields more tightly than most currency relationships. When yields rise, the pair usually rises. The yield market often moves a moment before the currency pair.

For scalpers on USDJPY, a chart of the US two-year or ten-year yield next to the pair is a useful addition. A sudden jump in yields suggests the currency will follow, and the lag, though small, can give a few seconds of warning.

The relationship is not constant. During risk-off episodes, the yen can rise even as yields fall, and the link breaks. On quiet days, the pair may drift independent of yields.

Futures on Treasuries trade nearly around the clock and offer a live feed. Some platforms include yield data, and some brokers offer bond CFDs.

The practical use is as a context filter. If yields are surging and a long USDJPY setup appears, confidence rises. If yields are falling and the pair is up, caution is warranted.

How closely does USDJPY track yields at the hours traded, and is there a measurable lag?
