Prop firm news rules: reading the exact wording

I've been comparing news trading rules across a few prop firms, and the wording differences are bigger than people think.

Some variants I found:
  • No trades opened or closed within 2 minutes before and after high impact news. Holding through is fine.
  • No trades open at all during that window, so a position opened an hour earlier still breaks the rule if it's open at release time.
  • Profits from trades in the window don't count toward the target, but the trades aren't a violation.
  • News defined by the firm's own calendar, which isn't always the same as the one you use.
For a scalper the second version is the dangerous one. I nearly broke it once because a trade from 13:10 was still open at a 13:30 US release, even though the entry had nothing to do with the data.

My approach now: I read the exact text, save a copy with the date, and set an alert 5 minutes before each event on the firm's own calendar.

Has anyone been caught by a news rule they thought they understood? It would help newer members to see real examples of how firms apply them.
