Trading the ticking number instead of the chart

Many scalpers watch the floating profit number rather than the price. The number changes with every tick, and each change produces a small emotional reaction.

A trade that has been up four pips and drops to two feels like a loss, even though it is still a gain. A trade that bounces from negative to positive feels like a recovery.

The result is decisions based on the number rather than the market. Closing winners too early to lock in gains. Holding losers too long hoping to see the number turn.

Some people hide the profit column and watch price levels alone. Others switch the display to pips instead of money, which lowers the emotional charge. A few set up alerts instead of watching.

The aim is to make decisions from the structure of the market and the plan, not from the flicker of the account balance.

Does hiding the floating profit change how trades get managed?
