Reading the deal history on MetaTrader 5

MetaTrader 5 separates orders, deals, and positions. Newcomers from MT4 often find the history confusing.

An order is a request. A deal is an execution. A position is the net result of deals on one symbol. A single position might involve several deals: an entry, a partial close, another entry, a final close.

For scalpers, the deal history is where the truth sits. It lists each fill with its own price, time, and commission. Comparing the order price with the deal price shows slippage. Looking at the deal times shows execution latency.

Some tools only show the position view, which averages everything. That view hides partial fills, which can be a big part of the cost on larger sizes.

The deal list also separates commission and swap, making the cost breakdown clear.

Exporting the deal history to a spreadsheet and adding a few columns gives a better picture of execution than any statistic on the broker's website.

Has the deal history ever revealed something that the position view had hidden?

The order, deal and position split confuses many people coming from MT4. For scalpers, exporting deals rather than orders gives the true execution record, including partial closes, and is the better base for any analysis.
