costs that never show on the trade ticket

Spread and commission are the costs everybody counts. The rest tend to sit in the corners:

- Swap or rollover charges on positions held past the daily cutoff, with a triple charge on one day of the week at many brokers.
- Inactivity fees on accounts that go quiet for a set number of months.
- Currency conversion when the account currency differs from the deposit currency, usually at a rate wider than the market.
- Withdrawal charges from the broker, the payment provider, or both.
- Commission charged per side, so a round trip costs double the quoted figure.

None of these is dramatic alone. Stacked on a scalper working a 3-pip target with a 1 pip spread, they add up.

A scalper who never holds overnight can ignore swaps, but conversion and withdrawal costs hit everyone, and they hit small accounts proportionally harder.

Which of these surprised you most, and which one only showed up on a statement?
