3% daily stop or three losses and done?

A daily loss limit can be built two ways, and the maths of each looks different.

One side uses a percentage of the account. Down 3% and the platform gets closed. Simple, and it caps the worst day.

The other side counts trades. Three losses and done for the day, whatever the money says. Easier to follow in the moment because nobody needs a calculator.

Here is the odds side. With 1% risk per trade and a 55% win rate, three losses in a row has a probability of 0.45 cubed, about 9.1%, at any given spot. But over 10 trades in a day, the chance of at least one run of three losses somewhere is roughly 41%. A rule that looks rare at 9% shows up on about four 10-trade days in ten.

That difference matters. A net 3% stop fires less often than a three-loss rule because wins in between offset losses. A streak rule fires more often, but kicks in faster after a bad run.

Neither is better by default. They answer different fears.

Which camp are you in, and how often does your limit actually get hit?
