fade the London break of the Asian range, or wait?

Asian-session ranges on the majors are often tight, say 25 to 40 pips on EUR/USD on a quiet day (that figure is only an illustration). Around London open the high or low usually gets poked, and what follows shapes the morning. Two ways to play it.

Option A, fade the break. Price pushes 5 to 10 pips past the range edge around 07:00 to 08:00 GMT, stalls, and a trader sells the poke back into the box. Targets are near and stops are small. The edge: many early breaks do fail. The cost: on the days they don't, a trend runs over the stop, and spreads are wide at the open.

Option B, wait. Let London print the first 30 to 60 minutes and trade the retest after a real break. The edge: fewer false starts. The cost: a worse price and a smaller move left on offer.

Neither is free. A is a bet on failure with a thin margin for error. B pays for confirmation with distance.

One factor rarely gets logged. A quiet Asian range after a big American session often behaves differently from one that follows a trend day. Check the news calendar too, because GBP or EUR data at 07:00 GMT can wreck either plan.

Which side do you land on, and how many pips past the range do you need before calling it a real break?
