The screen-time trap

More screen time feels like more edge. Hours of watching, hundreds of price movements observed. Surely that builds skill.

Not necessarily. Beyond a certain point, extra hours add noise and fatigue. Pattern recognition degrades. Eyes tire. The mind starts seeing setups in random movement.

Some of the most consistent scalpers trade only one or two sessions a day, sometimes just an hour or two. The rest of the time they review trades and prepare.

The best hours are often the busiest ones, when liquidity and volatility line up with the strategy. Outside those, the expected return per hour of attention is low.

A trade log sorted by hour usually shows a sharp fall in results after a few hours of screen time.

There is also the matter of what screen time displaces. Reviewing trades, studying the cost map, resting the eyes and sleeping all improve the next session more than another hour of staring at a flat market. The hours away from the chart are quietly part of the strategy, whether or not they are planned.

Where does performance begin to decline during a session, and how long does the trader stay at the screen after that point?
