oil inventories and CAD, try this on your own charts

Every Wednesday the weekly crude inventory report lands, and the idea is that Canadian dollar pairs react to it because oil is a major export. It's a neat story. Whether it holds is something anyone can check.
Here's a small test. Pull the last 20 releases. For each one, note whether the stock change was bigger or smaller than forecast, then mark what USD/CAD did in the following 5 minutes. Count how many times the direction matched the oil logic.
If the match rate sits near 50%, the story isn't helping. If it's clearly higher on some weeks and lower on others, look at what else was happening: a major US data day, a Bank of Canada week, a big swing in the dollar overall.
Often the oil effect gets swamped by dollar moves. CAD pairs are still mostly about the dollar side, and the inventory data matters more when crude itself is moving sharply on other news.
Also check the timing. Prices often react in crude futures first, and the currency follows with a small delay.
Keep the sample and the notes simple. A spreadsheet with date, surprise, 5-minute move and a comment column is enough.
Has anyone run the numbers on this, and what hit rate did the oil reaction show?
