Monday mornings and the market that hasn't made up its mind

Monday's early session is often awkward. Weekend news has to be digested, gaps may or may not fill, and participants are rebuilding positions. Price can drift without direction for hours.

Some scalpers love Monday because gap-fill setups appear. Others avoid it because the spread is wide at the open and the real direction doesn't show until later in the day.

A few observations that come up often:

1. Gaps in majors are usually small and often partially fill within the first hours.

2. Early Monday breakouts fail more often than mid-week breakouts.

3. The London session on Monday sets the tone for the week more often than not, but it's far from guaranteed.

Treating Monday as a separate category in the journal costs nothing. After a quarter, the answer to whether Mondays deserve a different approach is sitting right there.

Does Monday get the same treatment as any other day, or does it get a lighter touch?
