UK retail sales mornings: tone-setter or noise?

UK retail sales come out at 07:00 London, usually on a Friday. They're volatile month to month and often revised, so it's fair to ask whether they matter for GBP scalping.
What to track per release:
A sensible approach: don't trade the release itself, since spreads at 07:00 are wide and liquidity thin. Start at 08:00 as usual, and use the release only to judge whether the pre-open move has a reason behind it. A big surprise with a confirming move in gilts is more likely to carry into the open than a small one.
Also check revisions. A strong headline paired with a big downward revision of the prior month can reverse the first reaction.
Do others track this release, or treat it as noise?
What to track per release:
- GBPUSD range in the first 15 minutes, compared with a normal 07:00 window.
- Whether the direction of the reaction lasted into the 08:00 open.
- Size of the surprise, month on month, against consensus.
