Write a Complaint That Gets Read

Scenario: you placed a buy stop at 1.1050 on EUR/USD. During a news spike, the platform filled you at 1.1074, 24 pips above your price, and your position hit its stop minutes later for a loss of 80 dollars more than planned. You want to complain.

Build the letter from five blocks. Block one, identification: your name, account number, the date, and the platform. Block two, the facts: the order type, the price, the time of the order, the fill price and time, and the stop-out price and time. Include the screenshot of the trade history. Block three, the evidence: a chart from an independent source showing that the market traded at 1.1074 only at that moment, and that the spread was 3 pips, not the 0.8 stated in your conditions.

Block four, the terms: cite the clause on order execution and the one on abnormal market conditions. Show that you understand the broker's possible defense, and explain why it does not fit, or ask for clarification.

Block five, the request: what you want. For example, a review of the execution, an explanation of the slippage, and compensation of 80 dollars if the fill is found to be outside normal conditions.

Keep the tone calm, factual, and brief, under one page. Do not insult. Set a reasonable deadline, such as 14 days, and state that you will escalate to the regulator or ombudsman afterward.

Send it through the official channel and keep a copy.

Exercise: draft the five blocks for a real or imagined execution problem.
