The Ifo survey of German business sentiment comes out monthly at 09:00 London. It's one of the main German sentiment surveys and sometimes moves EUR.

What to track to see how much it matters for you:
  • EURUSD move in the first five minutes after release, against a normal five-minute window at that time.
  • Whether bigger moves come when Ifo and the flash PMIs from earlier in the week point the same way.
  • Which component surprised: business climate, current assessment, or expectations. The expectations component often gets more attention than the headline.
With one release a month, it takes a couple of years to build any sample, so treat early findings as rough.

A reasonable default: don't stop trading for Ifo, but avoid entering in the two minutes around it, and check what the PMIs said that week.

Does anyone track ZEW versus Ifo? ZEW surveys financial analysts, Ifo surveys companies, and they sometimes disagree.
