A sceptic's guide to "order flow" tools in spot FX

Order flow tools are popular again: footprint charts, cumulative delta, volume profile, DOM ladders. In futures they show real exchange data. In spot FX it is more complicated, and I think traders should know what they are actually looking at.
Questions I ask before trusting any of it:
Whose volume is this? In spot FX there's no central exchange. The "volume" is your broker's ticks or, at best, their LP aggregation. It's a sample, not the market.
Is it tick volume or traded volume? Many indicators count price changes, not contracts. Tick count correlates with activity, but delta built from ticks is a guess about aggressor side.
What's in the DOM? Some cTrader brokers show real depth from their LPs. Others show synthetic levels. Ask support directly.
Can I compare it with futures? For EURUSD, the 6E futures contract on CME has real volume. If your FX delta disagrees with 6E, I would trust 6E.
None of this means the tools are useless. Spikes in activity do mark interesting moments. Just don't treat a broker's tick delta as if it were the institutional tape.
Does anyone here cross-check spot FX flow against futures data? I'd like to know if the divergence is as large as I suspect.
