Switching brokers: what to export before leaving

Moving to a new broker is rarely as clean as expected. Before closing or abandoning an account, some housekeeping saves headaches later.

1. Export the full trade history in the platform's native format and as a spreadsheet.
2. Save account statements as PDFs, including monthly ones, for tax or dispute purposes.
3. Back up the platform's profiles, templates, indicators and expert advisors.
4. Screenshot the account terms and conditions as they stand.
5. Record the swap rates and symbol specifications for comparison.
6. Note the tick data and spread patterns observed, if any were logged.
7. Withdraw remaining funds and keep the confirmation.
8. Keep the support ticket history.

It sounds like a lot, but each item takes minutes, and any one of them can matter later. Statements in particular can be hard to retrieve once an account is closed.

And a few extras that people forget in the rush:

Password reset emails, because accounts tied to an old address can become impossible to recover. Written confirmation of balance at closure. A final copy of the client agreement. Any open complaint reference numbers.

A closed account with a missing statement is a headache that may turn up months later when a tax form asks for the numbers.

What other items belong on the exit checklist, and has anything important been lost during a broker switch?
