Renko and range bars for scalping

Renko and range bars ignore time. A new bar forms only when price moves a set distance. Quiet periods produce nothing, active periods produce a lot.
The appeal: noise filtering and clear trend structure. A 3 pip Renko brick on EURUSD cuts out the wiggles smaller than 3 pips. Support and resistance look cleaner, and false signals drop.
The catches: bars don't map to real time, so news and sessions are harder to track. Different platforms build Renko differently, and some versions repaint. Backtesting needs care, since a bar's high and low aren't preserved the same way as in standard candles.
Brick size is the key choice. Too small, and noise returns. Too large, and signals arrive late.
For anyone testing it, a handy trick is to base brick size on a multiple of the average spread plus a fraction of ATR, not a round number. That adapts to the pair and keeps the noise filter proportional. A fixed 5 pip brick means very different things on EURUSD and on GBPJPY.
Anyone using Renko or range bars for entries, what brick size worked, and did results hold up on a different broker's feed?
