Why the same setup works Monday and dies Thursday

Same pair. Same setup. Same rules. Monday pays three times in the first hour and Thursday stops out four in a row.
Usually it's not the setup. It's the environment around it. Monday often carries fresh positioning after the weekend and real directional intent early on. By Thursday, ranges may be exhausted from earlier in the week, big data has been released, and price chops around levels that were clean two days ago.
Some other usual suspects:
- Volatility dropped and the target is now too far away
- Spread widened in a session that used to be tight
- A news event scheduled that day changed behavior hours before it hit
- The setup depends on trend, and the trend simply ended
Tagging every trade with day of week for a couple of months is a boring exercise that sometimes exposes a surprisingly clear pattern.
A mini-case to illustrate. Picture a breakout scalper trading the first hour of London. Monday: the weekend news leaves positioning stretched, and the first push out of the Asian range keeps running for 20 pips. Thursday: Wednesday's data already burned the volatility, and the same breakout fizzles after 4 pips and snaps back. Identical rule, completely different payoff.
The trader who logs the day of the week, the prior day's range and the scheduled events starts seeing why. The trader who doesn't just concludes the strategy "stopped working" and goes shopping for a new one.
Has anyone found a day of the week where a strategy consistently falls apart, and if so, did skipping it improve overall results?
