Using USDJPY and EURUSD together to confirm a dollar move

When you trade a dollar pair, it helps to know whether the move reflects dollar strength across the board or something specific to that currency. I check at least one other major with opposite quotation. If EURUSD sweeps a low and shows a bullish structure break, I look at USDJPY. If the dollar is truly weakening, USDJPY should be showing a mirrored move: sweeping a high and reversing down. When both pairs agree, my confidence in the dollar based interpretation increases. When they disagree, for example EURUSD rises while USDJPY also rises, the cause is probably not the dollar, but euro strength or yen weakness, and the setup is less clear. This kind of cross check adds a bit of context without needing complex tools. The limitation is that correlations shift, especially around central bank events or risk driven flows, so I do not treat it as a rule but as a sanity check. If you want to formalize it, tag trades with and without confirmation and compare results over a decent sample before relying on it.

Checking a second dollar pair is a useful habit. In the Asian session I often compare USDJPY with AUDUSD. If USDJPY falls while AUDUSD rises, it suggests real dollar weakness. If both fall, it is more likely risk off flows with yen strength, which changes how I approach the trade.
