Thanksgiving week 2026: a plan for Wednesday 25 to Friday 27 November
US Thanksgiving is Thursday 26 November 2026. US stock and bond markets are shut that day, and on Friday 27 November the stock market closes at 13:00 New York, with the bond market following at 14:00. By then both the UK and the US are back on standard time, so 13:00 New York is 18:00 London.
Spot FX keeps trading throughout, but New York participation falls away, and the useful liquid window on Friday is London morning until about 16:00. Thursday has no US data, so what's left is European flow and whatever arrives from Asia.
A plan around that. Wednesday is normal, but note that the US weekly jobless claims are moved forward from Thursday to Wednesday that week, so 13:30 London on the 25th carries a release that normally lands a day later. Thursday: half size, London morning only. Friday: half size, flat by 16:00.
The cost side is simple arithmetic. If your usual stop is 6 pips and the average spread is 0.8, the spread is 13% of the stop. If the spread widens to 1.5 on a thin afternoon, it's 25%. The same setup then has a worse break-even hurdle, so sizing and the clock matter more than the chart does.
