MT4 alert rules for XAUUSD that don't spam

Gold moves quickly, and alerts set on price levels or indicators can fire constantly, quickly becoming noise. Some ideas for keeping alerts useful.
Principles:
- Fewer, more meaningful alerts.
- One alert per level, with a cooldown after firing.
- Alerts on conditions, not just prices.
Examples:
- Price alert at pre-marked levels only (3–5 per session), not every round number.
- Alert when price closes beyond a level on M5, not when it touches.
- Spread alert when spread > threshold.
- Time alert 5 minutes before scheduled news.
Implementation in MT4:
- Built-in price alerts for levels.
- Custom indicator with cooldown for condition alerts.
- Disable alerts outside trading hours.
A useful habit: review alerts weekly. Which ones led to trades? Which were ignored? Delete those that are always ignored.
