Asia breakout false starts on gold: filters that help

Gold breaks out of a tight range at 02:00 UK, runs a dollar and a half, then slowly bleeds back into the range over the next hour. Anyone who trades XAUUSD in Asia knows this pattern well.
The issue is thin participation. A breakout in Asia often comes from one sizeable order rather than a broad shift in sentiment, so there's nobody behind it once that order is filled.
Filters that seem to cut down the false starts:
Time. Breakouts in the first hour of Tokyo (00:00–01:00 UK) or around Chinese data releases carry more weight than those at 03:00 in the middle of the lull.
Range age. A range that has held for four hours or more and then breaks tends to be more meaningful than a 40-minute range.
Confirmation from USDJPY or the Nikkei. If risk sentiment shifts at the same time, the gold move has company.
Retest behaviour. A real breakout often retests the range edge and holds. A false one slices back through without pausing.
Size of the breakout candle relative to the range. A single candle that covers the full range height is more often a stop sweep than a genuine start.
None of these are perfect. Together they can turn a pattern that loses money into one that roughly breaks even, which for Asia gold is a fair result. Most of the money in gold is made later.
Anyone trading gold in Asia with a positive expectancy? Which filter mattered most for you?
