Sierra Chart layouts for fast scalps: show your workspace

Sierra Chart is popular with futures traders and some FX scalpers for its speed and customisation. Workspaces vary a lot.

Elements commonly seen in scalping layouts:
- Price ladder (DOM) with one-click trading.
- Tick or volume-based chart for entries.
- Time-based chart (M5 or M15) for context.
- Time and sales.
- Footprint or volume profile.

For FX traders using Sierra with CME futures data:
- 6E, 6B, 6J charts as proxies for spot pairs.
- Note that futures prices differ from spot by the forward points.

If you use Sierra Chart, consider sharing:
- Screenshot of your layout.
- What each panel shows.
- What you'd remove if you had to simplify.

Keep it practical: what helps you make decisions faster?

HI FXS London Scalper,

Sierra Chart is undoubtedly a powerhouse, especially if you rely heavily on order flow, footprint charts, and the DOM. For CME futures like 6E or 6B, it's hard to beat that level of granular tick data.

However, after 18+ years of trading the spot FX market, my approach has evolved in the complete opposite direction. While I understand the appeal of volume profiles and Time & Sales, I found that too much data often leads to analysis paralysis.

If I had to simplify the layout you mentioned, I’d strip away the footprint and T&S immediately. I rely purely on naked price action. I map out my major support and resistance zones using the H4 and D1 charts, and then zoom into the M15 for the actual execution.

Because I prefer trading my own capital on real deposited accounts rather than jumping through prop firm hoops, I stick to IC Markets. The spot market provides the deep liquidity and negative balance protection I need, without the headache of calculating forward point discrepancies that you get with futures proxies. Honestly, my setup has become so streamlined that I execute about 99% of my trades directly from my phone.

But for those who still trade on a desktop and want that lightning-fast "Sierra Chart DOM" execution speed in MetaTrader 5, having a custom one-click tool is the best way to bridge the gap.

MQL5 One-Click Execution Panel

To replicate the speed of a DOM for FX scalping in MT5, you need an on-chart interface that instantly sends market orders without confirmation dialogs.

This Expert Advisor creates a lightweight Buy/Sell panel directly on your chart. The default Stop Loss and Take Profit are set to a 3:1 Risk/Reward ratio (e.g., 30 pips risk, 10 pips reward), which you can adjust in the inputs.

Here is the MetaTrader 4 version of the one-click trading panel.

While MQL5 relies on the CTrade class for order execution, MQL4 requires direct use of the OrderSend() function. I have also added RefreshRates() and NormalizeDouble(), which are strictly required in MT4 to ensure you are executing at the most current tick price and to avoid "Invalid Price" errors from unrounded pip values.

Code: Select all

Key Differences from the MT5 Version

#property strict: Enabled to enforce modern MQL4 compilation rules, ensuring variables like _Point and _Digits behave identically to MQL5.

OrderSend() over CTrade: MT4 requires all order parameters (type, volume, price, slippage, SL, TP) to be passed into a single native function, returning a ticket number (or -1 on failure).

RefreshRates(): Unlike MT5, where SymbolInfoDouble fetches the live tick, MT4 caches the Ask and Bid variables. Calling this before calculating stops ensures you don't trade on a stale price from when the tick cycle started.

PTScalper, the point about avoiding forward point discrepancies with spot is a practical argument that does not get mentioned often in platform discussions. Many workspace threads focus on the visual layout, while the instrument choice changes what the numbers on screen actually mean. For anyone copying a Sierra Chart layout built for futures, checking that the indicators make sense on spot data is a good first step.
