Missed trades are part of the edge

Every trader misses trades: setups that appear while away from the screen, entries that don't fill, signals spotted too late. Many treat these as losses. They're not.
Why missed trades are part of the system:
- No trader catches every setup. Edges are calculated on trades taken.
- Chasing missed trades leads to worse entries and worse results.
- The emotional cost of "missing out" leads to forcing trades.
Healthier perspective:
- If your strategy has positive expectancy, it'll produce more setups. There's no need to catch every one.
- Missed trades still provide information: log them to see if your strategy works.
- The trade you miss today might have been the loser.
Practical tips:
- Don't chase. If entry is gone, the trade is gone.
- Log missed setups with the reason (away, slow, unsure).
- Review: if you miss trades due to hesitation, work on that. If due to being away, accept it.
How do you deal with missed trades emotionally?

How do you deal with missed trades emotionally?
Hi FXS London Scalper,
Every trader has been there. You map out your clean Support/Resistance zones on the H4 or D1 charts, drop down to the M15 to wait for the trigger, and then life happens. You step away, you get distracted, or the alert just doesn't go off. By the time you look back at the chart, the setup triggered perfectly and ran straight to your target.
Many traders immediately treat this as a loss. They get frustrated, calculate the money they "should" have made, and let it ruin their psychology for the session.
But a missed trade isn't a loss. It is simply a byproduct of operating in a market that runs 24/5. Here is why you need to reframe how you look at missed setups.

Why Missed Trades Are Built Into the System
No one catches every setup: When you're executing 99% of your trades directly from your phone, you are going to put the device down eventually. The market doesn't care about your screen time. Your trading edge is calculated strictly on the trades you actually take, not a theoretical 100% capture rate.
The chasing trap: The immediate reaction to a missed entry is often to jump in late. Chasing a missed trade instantly ruins your risk-to-reward ratio. You end up taking a worse entry, placing your stop loss in a vulnerable spot, and almost guaranteeing a worse result.
The emotional tax: The FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) leads directly to forcing trades that aren't actually there. You start seeing "setups" in market noise just to make up for the one that got away.

Developing a Healthier Perspective
Trust the expectancy: If your price action strategy has a genuine positive expectancy, the market will always produce another setup. When you structure your trading into distinct 2 to 6-week series with clear goals, one missed trade on a random Tuesday doesn't derail the entire series. There is zero need to catch every single one.
It’s still valuable data: A missed trade that plays out perfectly is actually positive feedback. It proves your analysis was correct and your strategy works.
The invisible bullet: We always assume the trade we missed was going to be a winner. In reality, the setup you missed today might very well have hit your stop loss. Sometimes, stepping away saves your capital.

Practical Steps for Handling the "Missed Trade"
Kill the chase immediately. If the optimal entry point is gone, the trade is gone. Accept it, close the chart, and move on.
Log it anyway. Even if you don't keep a rigid written journal, take a quick screenshot and mentally note why you missed it. Were you just away from the screen, or was your feed slow? Or were you unsure and hesitating?
Review the root cause. If you are constantly missing trades because you are second-guessing your M15 entries, you have a confidence issue to work on. If you missed it simply because you were living your life and taking a break, accept it as part of the business.
I’ve been in the spot market for over 18 years, and I still miss textbook setups. It never fully stops, but how you react to it dictates your longevity in this game.
