Watching DXY on M1 alongside EURUSD: does it help?

EURUSD makes up a large part of the dollar index, so on most days DXY and EURUSD move as mirror images. The question is whether DXY adds information or just duplicates the chart you already have.

Where it can help:

- Spotting dollar-wide moves vs EUR-specific moves. If EURUSD drops but DXY is flat, the move is about the euro (maybe a eurozone headline), not the dollar.
- Confirming breakouts. A EURUSD break of a level with DXY breaking its corresponding level at the same time is a broader move.
- Timing around US data: DXY sometimes reacts a fraction earlier on some feeds, though that depends on your data source.

Where it doesn't help:

- In quiet markets, DXY just tracks EURUSD inversely with a small lag.
- Retail DXY quotes are often a CFD with its own spread and timing, not the official index.
- Adding another screen can slow decisions.

A test: for 30 trades, note before entry whether DXY confirms. Compare results of confirmed vs unconfirmed entries.

Does anyone use a basket of their own (e.g. average of EUR, GBP, JPY vs USD) instead of DXY?
