Alerts for abnormal spread before you click buy

A spread alert is only useful if it fires before you've already clicked. That sounds obvious, but many setups alert on a timer or at bar close, which can be too late.
What a useful pre-click alert looks like:
- Checks on every tick, not every bar.
- Compares against a threshold that reflects the hour (08:00 and 11:00 UK need different numbers).
- Gives a sound and a visual, because you may be looking at another chart.
- Clears itself when spread normalises, so it doesn't become background noise.
A practical threshold: 2x the median spread for that hour from your own recorded data. Anything above that is unusual enough to justify waiting.
Where to put it:
- On the execution chart, not a separate monitoring window.
- As a label next to the price, e.g. "SPR 0.2" in grey, turning red at threshold.
Some platforms let you add a confirmation prompt to one-click trading. Combining that with a spread label means a quick glance before every order.
One side effect people report: after a few weeks with an alert, they start noticing spread spikes without it. The habit transfers.
What threshold works for your main pair, and how did you pick it?
