News filter plus broker freeze: double reason to be flat before NFP

Two separate things happen around non-farm payrolls that make it risky to hold positions:
1. The market itself: a release with a large surprise can move EURUSD 50+ pips in seconds, with gaps and extreme spreads.
2. Broker-side restrictions: some brokers increase freeze levels, raise margin requirements, or restrict order modification in the minutes around major releases.
The combination is dangerous: a position you can't modify, in a market moving violently, with a stop that will fill wherever the next available price is.
What to check with your broker:
- Do freeze levels change around news? (Check the symbol spec before and during a release.)
- Do margin requirements change temporarily?
- Is there a policy on order execution during high-impact news?
The simplest approach: flat 5 minutes before NFP, pending orders cancelled, no new trades until spreads normalise. For most scalpers, the first 15 minutes after NFP aren't worth the risk.
Do you trade NFP? If so, what precautions do you take?
