Single-symbol EA vs a basket of scalp algos

One approach is to build a single EA, tune it for one symbol and run it carefully. The other is to run a basket: several simple algos across different symbols, each with a small allocation.
Single-symbol:
- Deep understanding of one market's behaviour.
- Easier to monitor and debug.
- Concentrated risk: if the symbol changes character, the whole system suffers.
Basket:
- Diversification across symbols and logic.
- Smoother equity curve, if the strategies are genuinely uncorrelated.
- More complexity: more things to monitor, more parameters, more ways to overfit.
- Hidden correlation: five USD pairs in a basket are not five independent bets.
A practical consideration for scalpers: costs. A basket that includes crosses with wider spreads may lose its edge on those symbols even if the logic works on EURUSD.
A reasonable path: start with one symbol, get it solid, then add a second only if it passes the same tests independently. Check correlation of daily returns before combining.
Which approach do you run, and how many symbols?
