Yen crosses for scalping: ranking them by cost and cleanliness

EURJPY, GBPJPY, AUDJPY, CADJPY, CHFJPY... they all move on yen sentiment, but they're very different to scalp. A simple way to rank them is to compare typical movement with typical cost during the hours you trade.
A method anyone can run:
1. For each cross, record the median spread during your session (e.g. 07:00–11:00 UK) over two weeks.
2. Calculate the average 15-minute range for the same hours.
3. Divide range by spread to get a "room to work" ratio.
4. Add a subjective column: how clean is the structure? Do levels hold, or is it full of wicks?
What people often find:
- EURJPY tends to rank well: decent range, moderate spread, reasonably clean.
- GBPJPY has the biggest range but also the widest spread and the most violent spikes. Great on some days, punishing on others.
- AUDJPY is more active in Asia and on risk sentiment days.
- CHFJPY and CADJPY often have spreads too wide for small targets.
The ranking will differ by broker and by session, which is exactly why it's worth doing yourself.
