A manual pause switch for your EA
Every EA should have an easy way to stop opening new trades without removing it from the chart or turning off automated trading entirely. Something simple, like an input parameter, a button on the chart, or a file that the EA checks.
Why it matters: there are moments when you want the EA to stand aside. A surprise news event, a platform issue, a period when the market is behaving strangely, or just when you want to review something. Turning off automated trading for the whole platform stops every EA and might also stop trade management for open positions. Removing the EA from the chart loses its state.
A pause switch that only blocks new entries, while still managing open trades, is the cleanest option. The EA checks the switch before any new order and skips if it's on.
A file based switch is handy if you run several EAs. Create a file called PAUSE in a shared folder, and all the EAs that check for it stop opening trades. Delete it, and they resume.
It's also useful to have the EA show its status on the chart, so you can see at a glance whether it's active or paused.
It's a small feature, but it gives you control in exactly the moments when you need it most.
