USDJPY and the US 10-Year: Using Yields as a Lead Indicator Intraday

USDJPY tends to follow US Treasury yields more closely than most pairs follow anything. Intraday, yields sometimes move first, which can help with timing.
What to watch:
Do you keep a yield chart open while trading USDJPY, and has it helped your timing?
What to watch:
- US 10-year yield, or the 10-year futures (ZN) as a liquid proxy.
- US 2-year yield for data releases that affect Fed expectations.
- The direction of the move, not the exact level.
- As a filter: avoid longs in USDJPY when yields are falling sharply.
- As confirmation after data: if USDJPY spikes but yields do not move, the spike is more likely to fade.
- As an alert: a sudden yield move without a USDJPY reaction yet.
