How I handle the urge to trade more on prop accounts because the fee feels sunk
there's a thought that shows up on evaluations: I paid for this, so I should be trading it as much as possible. It's a trap. The fee is already spent, and trading more doesn't recover it. It just increases the number of decisions I have to get right.
I noticed that on days when I felt I wasn't using the account enough, I took more trades, and they were worse. The setups were marginal, and I was filling time. That has nothing to do with the opportunity in the market on that day.
So I set my trade count and my sessions by the same rules as on any other account. If there's no setup, there's no trade. I accept that an evaluation might take several weeks, and some of those days will be zero trade days.
When the thought comes up, I remind myself that the fee is a cost of the attempt, not a debt that has to be paid by the market. And I treat the evaluation like a test of process. If I pass, that's good, and if I don't, I learn from it.
