Midweek check, why I'm flat on a Wednesday and what I'm waiting for

midweek and I'm flat, which is where I want to be. Monday and Tuesday were fine, but the market got messy on Tuesday afternoon and I don't want to trade through that if it's still the case this morning.

Reference points: Tuesday's range is on the chart, along with the Asian range today. Price is sitting in the middle of Tuesday's range, which is not a place I want to enter. There's no level close enough to trade from, and the calendar has nothing until the afternoon.

My plan is to wait for London to develop and see if price gets to Tuesday's high or low, or breaks the Asian range. Without one of those, there's no setup. I've set alerts at the levels so I'm not staring at the screen.

I know it's tempting to find something to do. The discipline here is not forcing a trade because I want to be active. I'll update in the thread if something shows up, and if nothing does, I'll say so.

For anyone wondering what I am actually watching for, the first hour of London tells me a lot on days like this. If price keeps rotating around the middle of Tuesday's range and neither the Asian high nor low gets tested, I am not going to manufacture a trade out of it. My alerts sit at both extremes and I leave the charts alone. If Tuesday's high does get tested, I want to see how price behaves there before choosing between a fade and a break. If we are still in the middle by lunch, it becomes a review day.

For anyone who finds days like this hard, what helped me was writing down in advance what would make me trade. Today it is a test of Tuesday's high or low, or a clean break of the Asian range with a retest. Anything else is noise. Having that written means I am not hunting for patterns out of boredom. I used to take something just to feel involved and those trades were nearly always the worst of my week. Being flat in the middle of a range is a position too, and honestly a pretty good one most of the time.
