Keeping a buffer in the account after the first payout request
when you get a funded account and the first payout becomes possible, the temptation is to take as much as you can as soon as you can. I've learned to think about the account after the payout as well, not just the payout.
The trouble is a payout reduces the balance, and in some structures it also changes how close you are to the drawdown limit. If you take out most of the profit, you might be sitting right next to the floor with no room for a normal losing streak. Then a small run of losses can end the account, and the future payouts with it.
So I look at the rules to see how a withdrawal affects the drawdown reference, and I leave a buffer that I'm comfortable with. I'd rather take a smaller amount and keep the account healthy than take the maximum and be one bad day from losing it.
I also keep the rules for payout timing in my calendar. Missing a window or breaking a condition, like minimum trading days, can delay things. I treat each payout as a small process and not as a surprise.
