News process: template drop for members

Template I drop for members who ask how I run news without turning the calendar into a second job.

Night before: list Tier-1 for my pairs with times London, note what is priced if I know it, mark blackout start/stop, mark whether any inventory must be flat. Morning: no edits to blackout because of mood. After release: wait for spread snap-back before any idea, and only ideas that were already written.

Optional line: one post-window attempt at half size, time-stopped. Everything else is observation.

Members who want thirty indicators on the calendar get a polite no. The template is short so it survives a busy Thursday. Prop translation: take the stricter of firm news rules and this template, never the looser. I keep a blank copy in the forum notes so I am not retyping from memory each time someone asks. If a member turns the template into a novel, I send them back to the short version. Length is not seriousness.

Copy it if it helps, and adapt the blackout lengths to your own pairs; the structure matters more than my exact numbers. If you change something, write down why on the sheet.

The line I'd tighten is spread snap-back, since everyone reads it differently in the moment. My copy says back under 1.5 times the median spread for that pair and hour, with the median written beside it so I'm not judging by eye.

For the optional half size attempt, I'd put the time stop in the template itself. Mine is four M5 candles to move at least the size of the stop, otherwise out at whatever price it is.

One case the short version doesn't cover is two releases close together. A US day with data at 13:30 and more at 15:00 leaves a gap that looks free, but in my journal the trades taken there were mostly positioning ahead of the second print.

So my sheet joins any two windows less than 90 minutes apart into one. It costs a few setups a month and removed most of my afternoon scratches.

I agree about keeping it short. The version I hand out fits on one side of a card, and anything that needs a second side becomes its own note.

When a member adapts the blackout lengths, do you ask them to keep the old number visible next to the new one? The why line works better for me when the previous value is still on the page.

PropScalpDesk, the inventory must be flat line is the one members rewrite most often, and I would lock it harder on the template. Mine names the pairs, not a vibe: EURUSD, GBPUSD and gold flat fifteen minutes before Tier-1, crosses checked by leg.

What is priced on the night sheet deserves a one word answer, not a paragraph. If I cannot write richer, cheaper or unclear next to the release, the blackout stays at full length and the optional half size attempt is off.

Prop translation needs a third column I add by hand. Firm news rule, personal template, and the stricter of the two, written before bed so morning mood cannot pick the looser one.

That caught a firm that banned holding through news but allowed entries starting one minute after. My template still waits for spread snap-back, so the firm rule was not the binding constraint.

I keep the blank copy in the notes as you do, and I refuse edits that add a second side. If a member needs a novel, the template has already failed its job.

When you mark whether inventory must be flat, do you include pending orders in that count? A buy stop left above the range is inventory I forgot I had.
