Affiliate Incentives: Who Gets Paid When You Open an Account

Many websites, YouTube channels, and social accounts recommend brokers. Behind many of those recommendations sits a commercial arrangement worth understanding.

Brokers pay referral commissions to affiliates and introducing brokers. The payment structure often takes one of two forms: a fixed payment for each new funded account, or a share of the spread revenue generated by referred clients, sometimes for as long as they trade.

The second model creates a persistent incentive. The more you trade and the more you lose through costs, the more the referrer earns. That does not mean everyone who is paid is dishonest. It does mean that the person recommending a broker may profit from your activity, and the recommendation may reflect commission levels more than quality.

Disclosure varies. Some referrers state it clearly, others bury it in small print, or omit it.

Signs to be careful about include reviews that praise only one broker, promises of exclusive bonuses through a specific link, and educational content that ends with a push to open an account.

None of this prevents you from using a referral link, which sometimes gives a real benefit. But research the broker independently first, checking regulation, execution, and withdrawal experiences, and not relying on a single source.

Apply the same skepticism to your own recommendations when you share information with others.

Practical step: for each broker recommendation you have followed, check whether the person recommending it had a referral link.

The revenue share model is the one to think about. If someone earns from your spread for life, their best customer is someone who trades a lot, not someone who trades well.

Doesn't mean avoid all links. Just look the broker up yourself first, regulator site, withdrawal reviews, then decide. If it still looks good, using the link costs you nothing extra.
