EURUSD at London close: skipping pre-data positioning

Sitting into US data from a London-close “position” is how scalpers accidentally become swing traders with scalp stops. My rule is skip pre-data positioning unless the trade was planned as an event trade with event-sized risk — which, for me, usually means no trade at all.

Checklist near London close when Tier-1 US data is still due:
  • Flat by default — working orders cancelled.
  • No “small hold” into the print to “see what happens.”
  • If I am tempted, I write the thesis in one sentence; if it needs the data to work, I cancel.
Curiosity is not a strategy. The print will still be there after the stand-aside timer. What will not be there is the capital you donated to a wide spread and a hope trade.

Do you ever hold EURUSD from London close into Tier-1 US data on purpose — or is flat the only adult option on your desk?

The rare exception would be a pre-planned event trade with event risk and a hard invalidation — not a leftover London scalp that grew overnight ambitions. I have not needed that exception in a long while.
