Kitchen timer between trades to break click chains

Kitchen timer between trades

My worst habit was not size — it was click chains. One scratch, immediate re-entry, second scratch, then a “make it back” market order. The chart looked busy; the journal looked stupid.

I put a cheap kitchen timer next to the mouse. After any exit (win or loss):
  • Start 3 minutes (London) / 5 minutes (overlap if spreads are lively)
  • Hands off one-click — flatten hotkeys covered with a sticky if needed
  • Use the pause to mark the chart and write one line: why that trade, why next would be different
If the timer feels unbearable, that is the signal I was about to overtrade. On quiet mornings I still use 90 seconds — the point is a forced gap, not meditation.

Does a hard pause work for you, or do you prefer a max-trades-per-hour cap instead? I found the timer cheaper than another indicator and harder to argue with.
