Session tags vs setup tags

I used to tag every scalp by setup name only. Useful, until I noticed the same “A+ pullback” was a gift at London open and rubbish after 16:00 London. The edge was not the pattern — it was when I took it.

So I split the journal:

• Setup quality (A / B / C against written rules)
• Time-of-day bucket (pre-London, London drive, overlap, late NY)
• Optional: pair + spread band at entry

After a few hundred rows, one chart told the story: B setups in the first 90 minutes of London still beat A setups in thin late NY. That changed my session budget more than any new indicator.

Questions for the desk:

• Do you score setup quality separately from session quality?
• How many buckets before the tags become noise?
• Anyone correlating tag quality with cost of carry/spread by hour?
