BOJ headlines can move USDJPY before the calendar looks busy.
I use a stand-aside timer after surprise BOJ headlines — no hero first tick, no storytelling in the first burst. When the tape stops one-ticking in a straight line and a pullback or reclaim structure appears, I may engage with reduced size. If headlines keep dripping, the timer resets. That reset rule alone has saved me from "it already moved, must be safe" clicks.
This is separate from scheduled BOJ events, which usually get a wider blackout. Surprise headlines are about not pretending you have an edge in the opening burst when spreads and gaps are doing the real talking.
I also check whether the headline is truly policy-relevant or just noise. Not every yen headline deserves the full timer — but when in doubt, I use it.
