EURUSD at Monday open: dead tape stand-aside rules

Monday London can look like a market and trade like a waiting room.

Dead tape for me: overlapping M5 bars, spreads a touch sticky, no willingness to hold beyond short-term levels, and a general sense that participants are probing rather than committing. On those Mondays I stand aside on EURUSD rather than invent ORB or fade costumes. I will watch levels for later, but the open itself is not owed a trade.

Rule: if I cannot state the setup in one sentence without apologising, I am flat. Two forced Monday scratches are my cue to shut the platform until the overlap or until the tape wakes up. Protecting attention is part of the strategy — Monday overtrading has ruined more weeks for me than Monday missed winners.

This is a session filter, not a fear of Mondays as a superstition.
  • Do you have explicit Monday dead-tape rules?
  • Flat all morning, or only skip the first hour?
Protecting attention is part of the strategy.

Monday dead tape: stand aside is the trade

Monday London can look open and trade like a waiting room. Overlapping M5, sticky spreads, probes without follow-through — that is flat for me on EURUSD, not a challenge to invent activity.

Rule from this desk: dead-tape checklist fails → no discretionary tickets until a clear impulse with acceptance and normal costs. I may mark levels. I do not “practice” live. Warm-up size still counts as risk; if the tape is dead I prefer zero.

Full-time schedule pressure is real. Empty Mondays protect Tuesday. Prop consistency rules sometimes tempt calendar painting — I refuse junk Monday fills just to stamp the date.

I may still run the pre-session checklist so Monday is not wasted — levels marked, news noted — but marking is not a licence to click. Observation days are part of full-time work.

What is your clearest dead-tape tell — spread, M5 overlap, or simply no willingness to hold beyond the first level?
