It is possible to use forex scalping strategy in stocks?

Hi traders, scalpers :-)

Today i asked myself, is it really possible to use my forex scalping strategy in stock market?

Yes, it is entirely possible to apply forex scalping concepts—such as momentum triggers, order book dynamics, and price action tracking—to stocks. However, because the market microstructures of forex and equities differ significantly, a direct copy-paste of a forex scalping strategy often fails without adjustment.
The primary differences, operational hurdles, and structural changes required to scalp stocks include the following:

1. Transaction Costs and Commissions

Forex: Typically operates on a spread-only model (no per-trade ticket commissions for retail ECN/STP accounts), making high-frequency entries and exits cheaper regarding fixed fees.
Stocks: Even with commission-free broker models, you must account for ECN fees, routing costs, and slippage. If a stock scalper targets 2 to 5-cent moves, a fixed per-share or per-trade commission structure can quickly erode micro-profits.

2. Regulatory Constraints (The PDT Rule)

Forex: Has no day-trading limitations and allows high leverage regardless of account size in many jurisdictions.
Stocks (US Markets): Subject to the Pattern Day Trader (PDT) rule, which requires maintaining a minimum equity balance of $25,000 in a margin account if you execute four or more day trades within a rolling five-day window. Cash accounts avoid this, but they face settlement delays (T+1 settlement), limiting rapid-fire capital reuse.

3. Market Hours and Liquidity Profiles
Forex: Liquid 24 hours a day, 5 days a week, with overlapping major sessions providing predictable volatility bursts.
Stocks: Highly concentrated liquidity during specific hours (primarily the regular US cash session from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM EST, plus pre-market and after-hours). Scalping stocks requires focusing strictly on mega-cap liquid equities or high-volume index ETFs (like SPY or QQQ) to avoid wide bid-ask spreads and slippage.

4. Short-Selling Frictions
Forex: Going short is structurally identical to going long—you simply sell the base currency.
Stocks: Shorting requires the broker to locate shares to borrow. "Hard-to-borrow" stocks can incur heavy borrow fees, and short-selling can be restricted during sharp downtrends via market circuit breakers (e.g., the SEC short-sale restriction rule).

I decided to test it on my new favorite stock, CSG, traded in Europe.
Because it is new company with lot of Big News, it is volatile enought to try it on. From my point of view it can be interesting.

What do you thing? Did you try it for yourself?

I will document that experiment here:

I created first 3 small scalps on small account without leverage, so there will be zero stress.
And i understand, that there will be longer holding period than in forex spot market, when i hold some positions only for very short period of time, like minutes.

Plus i decided to try it on stock of space X too.
So Lets see, how it goes.
First difference, which i see is, that forex market thanks to its leverage is more volatile and such scalping is possible in faster way, from like M15 charts, on another hand at these stocks i watch H1 chart.
